The most widely used process---Sand Casting

  

  Sand casting is one of the oldest and most widely used methods of casting metal parts. It involves the use of a sand mold to create a cavity into which molten metal is poured, allowing it to solidify and take the shape of the mold. Sand casting is commonly used to produce large, complex parts, such as engine blocks, manhole covers, and pipe fittings.

  The sand used in sand casting is typically made of a mixture of silica sand, clay, water, and other additives. The sand is packed around a pattern that defines the shape and dimensions of the final part. The pattern is typically made of wood, plastic, or metal and is removed from the mold after the sand has been packed around it.

  Once the mold is prepared, the molten metal is poured into the mold cavity. The metal solidifies as it cools, taking the shape of the mold. Once the metal has cooled and solidified, the sand mold is broken apart and the casting is removed. The casting may require further machining and finishing to achieve the desired final shape and surface finish.
